Established by the Smedley family in 1999, Mandala Wines is one of the Yarra Valley’s most recognised family wine brands, combining originality with a clear regional style. Mandala Wines covers two properties in the rolling hills of the Yarra Valley; the premium Pinot Noir vineyard in Yarra Junction, and the main site in Dixon’s Creek which harvests Mandala’s prized Pinot noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines.
Mandala Wines is seeking an ambitious, experienced and passionate Winemaker with the drive to meet the business objectives through active participation and cooperation as well as continue the production of Mandala’s esteemed wine portfolio, including a Single-site range, an Estate range and the Mandala Sands range.
Responsibilities will include:
- The creation of award-winning wines from the vineyard to the bottle
- Overseeing the day-to-day winemaking operations, ensuring efficiency, sustainability and quality control parameters are met
- Managing and coordinating winemaking processes with the vineyard team and winery personnel to improve production, cost and quality
- Planning and organising all winemaking logistics and scheduling
- Record keeping and administration on a monthly and annual basis
The successful applicant will report directly to Mandala’s Managing Director and will be involved in the evaluation and tasting stages, making appropriate recommendations on stylistic requirements. A broad spectrum of industry knowledge, skills and experience is required, either through tertiary education with approved certification and/ or a minimum of 3+ years in a winemaking role. As this position will also involve Sparkling wine, a broad knowledge of the fundamentals of winemaking must be understood. Although not essential, vineyard experience will be an advantage.
