Handpicked Wines is an Australian wine producer headquartered in Sydney, with vineyards in the Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula and Barossa Valley. We have long-term partnerships with growers in other wine regions across Australia and overseas.
Based in the Yarra Valley in Victoria, the Senior Viticulturist will oversee management of Handpicked Wines’ Yarra Valley vineyards, Highbow Hill & Wombat Creek.
The position will focus on management of operating and capital budgets, while ensuring our vineyards deliver fruit of the highest quality using best-practice methodologies. The role will include planning and implementation of significant areas of new plantings and areas of vine replacement. A key challenge will be to inject new vitality and energy into the vineyards, along with the implementation of organic principles. There will be a level of hands-on activity, as well as supervision of all staff and contractors.
Handpicked Wines is seeking to acquire additional vineyards in Australia and overseas. Over time, there is potential for the Senior Viticulturist to be involved in these projects.
Job Requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications in Viticulture or Horticulture.
- Minimum ten years’ experience in vineyard management will be well regarded.
- Good communication skills - both oral and written.
- Ability to represent the company at relevant industry and business events as required.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Motivated to be part of a relatively young, dynamic and fast growing enterprise.
- Current driver’s license.
- RSA certificate and truck and/or heavy machinery licenses would be advantageous.
- Experience growing a range of both commercial and premium wine styles would be advantageous.
