Bird In Hand is a premium Adelaide Hills winery pursuing the goal of being the pinnacle of wine, food, artistic experiences and design.
As a Senior Winemaker, you will demonstrate a real presence, refined palette and passion for the winemaking. You will work closely with our team at the Bird in Hand Head Office based in the Adelaide Hills.
This is a unique and rare opportunity:
- To join a stable team (replacing someone who has been working for Bird in Hand for 13 years)
- To create premium wines from Adelaide Hills and Tasmania

The primary responsibility of the Senior Winemaker is to create world class wine within a team of highly skilled working professionals. The winemaker role forms an integral part of our production team as we focus on producing wines that sit at the pinnacle of world-wide opinion. You will be committed to sustainable practices, a vital member within our innovative team and have an uncompromising approach to safety and quality assurance.
Specific responsibilities of the role include:
- Work closely with the Viticulturist and growers to elevate fruit quality
- Contribute to vintage planning, vintage reviews and presenting ideas for the continued improvement of Bird in Hand wines
- As part of the winemaking team, lead and guide the winery production team and oversee all wine production including contract winemaking services
- Collaborate with sales and marketing team on style trends and as a brand ambassador
- Promote sustainable practices, maintain SWA Accreditation, and comply with industry regulations
- Foster a positive team culture, celebrating ambition and growth
Qualifications:
- Tertiary or equivalent degree in Winemaking or Oenology
- Ideally, 10+ years Winemaker experience.
