Job Description
Farm Manager – “Topper’s Mountain”, New England, NSW
Live and work where wine meets wide open skies
About Us
“Topper’s Mountain” is a 650Ha high-country farm near Tingha in the New England
tablelands, NSW. We’re a small, progressive, family-owned operation with a big personality
– combining a 10Ha boutique vineyard and a 200-head trade cattle program. We’re
passionate about growing great produce in a regenerative way – and about sharing the story
behind every bottle and beast.
Mark & Stephanie Kirkby own the farm and are based in Sydney – which means we need a
capable, motivated person on the ground to manage day-to-day life on the property.
The Role
We’re not just looking for a “farm hand” or a “vineyard worker”. This is a diverse, hands-on
management role where you’ll wear a few hats — Farm Manager, Vineyard Coordinator,
Cellar Door Host, and even local Event Support. You’ll have real autonomy, input into how
things run, and the backing of the owners to innovate and make smart decisions.
This job suits someone who wants variety in their work week, takes pride in running a
property well, and wants to be part of building something special.
No vineyard or wine knowledge? No worries – we’ll teach you. But you do need
confidence and experience with livestock, machinery, tractors and getting your hands dirty.
What You’ll Do
* Co-create and carry out the farm’s annual operating plan and budget, with a focus
on sustainability
* Manage vineyard and livestock operations efficiently and hands-on
* Operate and maintain tractors, spray rigs and other farm machinery
* Work alongside Mark on farm strategy, but take the lead on day-to-day decision-
making
* Liaise with our cattle operation partners and manage casual labour and supplier
relationships
* Maintain and implement biosecurity, OH&S, HR, legal and procedural
compliance
* Coordinate local wholesale wine sales and customer relationships in regional
centres like Inverell, Armidale, Glen Innes, Tamworth and Moree
* Host booked Cellar Door tastings (with casual assistance) and help run or support
local food & wine events
* Be an enthusiastic ambassador for the Topper’s Mountain brand
What’s On Offer
* Competitive salary,
* Diverse role with real scope and independence
* Support and flexibility from experienced, off-farm owners
* Opportunity to learn viticulture and wine sales in a premium, cool-climate vineyard
setting
* A chance to live and work in one of Australia’s most unique food & wine regions
* Consideration may be given to a couple open to job-sharing this opportunity.
