In this role
The Vineyard Supervisor provides support in the day-to-day operation of the Company vineyards in the Barossa region, through the supervision of contractors and by carrying out viticultural tasks as directed.
Throughout the harvest period the Vineyard Supervisor assists the Regional Viticulturist - Barossa with all vintage planning, logistics and coordination of vintage operations.
This is a ‘hands-on’ role which includes supervision of contractors and their employees; irrigation application and scheduling; pest and disease monitoring; yield estimation; tractor and machinery operation; and other tasks as directed by the Vineyard Operations Manager.
Key accountabilities include
- Maintain appropriate records and process paperwork so that suppliers are paid accurately and on time
- Collect and maintain data related to the vineyard in a timely manner
- Train vineyard contractors’ employees in aspects of vineyard procedures
- Ensure the company’s assets including plant and equipment are kept secure and in good order
- Maintain the vineyard property to a safe and tidy standard
- Ensure that all viticultural operations are carried out efficiently, safely and in accordance with good viticultural practice and company policy
- Respond to emergency situations on the property and be available after hours as caretaker of the property/s
- Assist the Regional Viticulturist - Barossa and the St Hallett and Grant Burge Wines winemaking teams with the coordination of vintage planning and harvest logistics
- Keep the Vineyard Operations Manager informed of all matters concerning the vineyard
Other accountabilities include
- Work with management, SEQ teams and employees and contractors to ensure safe systems of work are developed, documented and followed
- Participate in training programs, as required
- Carry out any other tasks or responsibilities that may be requested by the Vineyard Operations Manager and Regional Viticulturist - Barossa
Essential knowledge and skills are
- Intermediate-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with a basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook
- Vineyard operation skills
- Well-developed organisational and time management skills
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Leadership skills
- Self-motivation with a demonstrated ability to work unsupervised
Required experience is
- Hands-on experience working in a vineyard, including machinery operation
- A minimum of 3 years' demonstrated experience in a supervisory or contractor manager capacity, ideally in a vineyard environment
Essential qualifications are
- Certificate III in Viticulture or a related discipline
- Undergraduate qualifications in Viticulture, Oenology, Agriculture or a related discipline (desirable)
- ChemCert Accreditation
Physical and other requirements
. A valid driver’s licence is essential.
This role involves:
- Working outdoors
- Working with hazardous substances
- Exposure to noise
- Regular manual handing
- Extended working hours, inlcuding weekends, during vintage
