Job Title: Pipers Brook Vineyard Viticulturist
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer
Pipers Brook Vineyard (PBV) has an exciting and challenging leadership opportunity, Viticulturist for a suitably qualified and experienced candidate. The position has become available due to the incumbent needing to return to South Australia for personal reasons.
The role is based in North East Tasmania and has responsibility for six vineyards and nearly 200 hectares of established vineyard area plus land bank for potential future development. Our brands include Ninth Island, Pipers Brook and Kreglinger Vintage Sparkling. The Viticulturist reports directly to the CEO, forms part of the Leadership Team and leads a diverse team located across multiple sites.
We have invested heavily in our vineyards for the last three years and we are now enjoying the results of this. There is more to do, and our ideal candidate will not mind a challenge as broadly we see ourselves 2.5 years into a 5 year vineyard rejuvenation program.
This position is supported strategically by leading industry expert and the highly renowned and regarded, cool climate viticulturist, Ray Guerin. Ray is willing to offer his knowledge, experience and mentoring to the successful candidate.
KEY DUTIES
The Viticulturist is responsible for managing and overseeing vineyard operations for PBV. The absolute number one responsibility is the consistent delivery of yield and quality whilst managing costs. Planning is a key component of the role and includes both opex and capex budgets, strategy as well as viticulture and vineyard programs.
Specifically, the role has responsibility for vineyard management and viticulture direction including pest and disease management, yield estimates, irrigation management, nutrition programs, vine management programs and labour.
Work collaboratively with other streams of the business, particularly winemaking.
Introduce an external grower program to PBV that achieves an increase in annual fruit intake from non-company owned vineyards.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Preferably you have cool climate viticulture experience and at least 5 years of viticultural experience. Tertiary qualification in viticulture, entomology or agronomy is required. You are highly proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. The ability to think, act and present in a quantifiable fashion is important as is an ability to bring solutions with problems. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required and that you have experience in leading teams.
