Highland Heritage Estate is seeking a fulltime hands-on working Vineyard Manager to manage all aspects of vineyard operations at our Vineyard located in Orange NSW.
The 125 hectare property was purchased in 1988 on the outskirts of Orange NSW, and is one of the first commercially planted vineyards in the area. The Vineyard is situated at 900 metres on rich basalt soil 3kms east of Orange. It is currently planted to 40 acres of grapes consisting of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Riesling and Shiraz
We are looking for someone who has considerable experience in the field of cool climate viticulture. The successful applicant will need to be organised and hands on, with the skills to manage staff and work independently. A self-motivated and passionate person with a fine wine grower mindset, good communication skills and relevant viticultural qualifications.
Reporting to the General Manager.
PRIMARY ROLE: Increase/improve fruit and wine quality.
· Manage all operations of the vineyard, including soil improvements, irrigation, trellis, vine manipulation, disease, pest and weed control.
· Optimise grape quality and yields.
· General growing activities including harvesting and pruning.
· Vine planting program.
· Pruning and training program.
· Harvesting program.
· Monitoring and record keeping of vineyards.
· Vine health and productivity on all vineyards.
· Irrigation regime and water efficiency.
· Cultivation, thinning, pruning, tying, suckering, canopy management, planting and replanting and harvesting.
· Ability to work with contractors to develop and improve vineyard results.
· Erosion control, trellis Installation, frost protection, vineyard installation, fence installation and R&M.
· Comply with OHS ensuring correct PPE used at all times
· Ensuring compliance of staff, contractors and vineyard visitors to best practice wine industry bio-security environmental and safety protocols
· Operate vineyard machinery, tractors, grape harvesters, multi row equipment, mowers, brush cutters and chainsaws.
· Maintain overall site visual presentation including mowing.
The applicant will hold Australian citizenship, residency status or have a valid existing Australian work visa as well as a valid driver’s license, forklift license, chemical certificate and preferably have a first aid certificate.
