Cellar Door Assistant (Wine Jobs: Wine Retail & Sommelier)

McLeish Wines is currently looking for a talented, knowledgeable and enthusiastic wine professional to join our Hospitality team to operate its highly acclaimed Cellar Door showcasing our Estate wines and brand history.

Ideally, we are seeking an individual with wine sales or hospitality and/or tourism experience, however, a genuine passion for wine and the ability to decipher customers’ needs and preferences are more important.

You will need to be comfortable with working in a busy cellar door environment and be able to undertake manual handling duties as well as extended periods on your feet.

Working closely with a very experienced management team and reporting to the cellar door manager. The focus of this role will include:

  • Host consumer guests at McLeish Wines and provide a tasting experience consistent with the brand vision.
  • VIP, Trade tastings and famils under direction from the Marketing team, when required.
  • Understand the importance of wine tourism experiences in the attraction of visitors to the brand sites and providing a positive experience of the brands.
  • Prepare and send cellar door, wholesale and wine club orders in a timely manner, including all customer service follow-up.
  • Ensure the presentation of the cellar door and surrounding grounds is clean, tidy and consistent with the brand vision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES: 

  • Strong customer service focus with knowledge of wines and a ‘can do’ attitude; 
  • Proactive response to all telephone, emails, inquiries and requests; 
  • Perform and process all wine orders; 
  • Assist with all wine shipments from order to fulfilment; & 
  • Other duties as required. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Essential Skills, Experience, and Education:
  • Experience in the wine/hospitality industry is essential;
  • Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate is essential;
  • Computer Skills;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with diverse client group:-
  • Ability to confidently conduct group wine tastings;
  • Ability to manage priorities with enthusiastically;
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance;
  • Ability to work weekends and public holidays is essential and evenings on occasions; &
  • Strong organisation, problem-solving and analytical skills.
