AVL’s Merbein packaging winery produces wines in multiple glass and closure formats as well as bag in box and is implementing one of the most technologically advanced bottling lines in Australia with sparkling capability.

Our Company currently has an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Manager to be based at our Merbein Packaging facility, VIC.

Reporting to the Senior Winemaker, the successful candidate will participate in winemaking responsibilities for the group, including but not limited to: 

• Ensure laboratory equipment is serviced and maintained in good working condition;
• Ensure laboratory management systems comply with all NATA & ISO 17025 requirements;
• Lead lab team, including training and upskilling of personnel.
• Perform chemical, microbiological analysis including export compliance and associated paperwork;
• Preparation of solutions utilised by the laboratory & wine tasting laboratory;
• Ensure daily proficiency program analysis is completed, checked for its accuracy and reported;
• Purchasing consumables and external services; and
• Implement and support all company HSE Policies and safe work practices in the laboratory including solving or reporting workplace hazards.

Tertiary qualification(s) in oenology, food & beverage technology, microbiology or another related applied science is essential. A minimum of five years’ experience in similar laboratory environments, preferably with two years or more at a supervisor level is required.  Exposure to NATA requirements would be beneficial.
