The City Wine shop is offering an exciting career opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced wine retail assistant or sommelier to join our wine team. This is a perfect role for someone who loves wine, is approachable, friendly and looking to be mentored in developing your palate and wine knowledge.
Ideally you will have 2-3 years of experience in a fast paced wine retail and/or wine bar environment or you are a sommelier looking at moving from a more formal restaurant environment.
The successful candidate must have:
- Extensive knowledge and experience serving and selling local and European wines
- Leadership qualities, including the ability to mentor and delegate
- Strong interpersonal/communication skills with guests and colleagues across all levels
- Organisational skills including adaptability, multi-tasking, and the ability to quickly adjust pace
- The ability to maintain a calm, focused presence in a busy, dynamic environment
- Basic to intermediate computer skills inclusive of Gmail Suite and Microsoft Office
- The flexibility to work across a 7-day roster
- An Australian or NZ citizenship, Permanent Resident status or hold an appropriate work visa
Although not essential, it would be beneficial for the candidate to have:
- Achieved WSET Level 3 certification or Court of Master Sommeliers Certified level
- Worked a hands-on vintage at a winery - either in the vineyard or as a cellar hand.

- Collaborating with the Retail Manager in relation to wine, beer and spirit purchasing. This includes stock management, forecasting and supplier interaction, incorporating tastings & strategic business planning.
- On-going internal and external training and development opportunities to further enhance your knowledge and skills. These opportunities may include trips to visit local producers, trade tastings and workshops with visiting international winemakers.
