Overlooking leafy Bourke Street Hill, Bottega serves some of Melbourne’s best modern Italian cuisine. The menu takes inspiration from regional Italian cooking, with several Sicilian influences and pasta is all made by hand. The interior exudes sophistication and comfort. Stylish leather booths and white clothed tables evoke a plush New York–style dining room, perfect for a romantic evening, a pre-theatre feed, a long lunch or a late dinner. With the added bonus of flexible and intimate spaces for private dining, accommodating groups from as little as 10 guests or as many as 60. Our rooms are a unique city dining experience. Located on the first floor, Bottega’s private rooms are perfect spaces for a wide range of events - from corporate lunches & dinners, Christmas parties and medical industry presentations to milestone birthdays, intimate weddings, engagement dinners and wine dinners.

THE ROLE

The Sommelier role requires flexibility to work around the demands of the business, including weekends and public holidays.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • An individual with a strong focus on service and knowledge in both food and beverage
  • The desire to drive and grow your wine knowledge
  • An individual to challenge themselves and build on the current wine list
  • WSET Level 3 or higher is desired but not essential
  • Previous Sommelier/Service experience with an attention to detail

THE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Motivate, manage and train the front of house team. To encourage the highest standard of service excellence
  • Manage wine purchasing and lists
  • Liaise with the Head Chef to pair wines with menus
  • Represent the venue at industry events
  • Drive revenue and deliver business growth
  • Ability to up-sell and increase beverage sales
  • Maintaining the accuracy of the wine list to an acceptable level at all times, including printing
  • Maintaining accuracy of stock levels, locations and the restocking of wine storage areas
  • Assisting Function Co-Ordinators with wine selection for events and functions
