The Fresh Food Merchant, established in 2016, is a family owned and operated City Grocer. The Merchant, as known by the locals, is about to embark on a new exciting journey with the opening of the The Merchant Cellar.
Located at the site of the old Cressy Trading Co, The Merchant Cellar will compliment our current speciality grocery range, Full Slice on Demand Delicatessen, Fishery and Locally and authentically sourced Produce. The Merchant Cellar will champion the very best boutique Wines, Beers and Spirits from Australia and all over Globe.
Young & vibrant owners are looking for industry professionals at both senior and entry level, with a passion for all types of food and Wine to join the Merchant Cellar team. You will be working closely with the Directors to ensure the day to day smooth running of this new venture.
You will need a sound wine, beer, and Spirits knowledge, an eye for detail, be able to work in a busy retail setting and be comfortable working independently at most times.
With an extensive range of product at your disposal responsibilities will include:
- Retail sales, selling premium alcoholic and Non alcoholic products
- Restocking and maintenance of the range, maintaining high standards of store presentation and cleanliness ensuring all products are presented in a pleasant, inviting manner
- In Store Merchandising and the ability to quickly learn about our product range to ensure that our wonderful brands and producers are represented to the highest level.
- Cash handling and reconciliation.
- General maintenance of a busy store environment

Casual, part-time and full-time positions available for the right candidate.
To be considered you will have:
- A commitment to providing great customer service by working with enthusiasm, energy, and pace
- The availability to work flexible hours, including Saturdays and Sundays ( In December only)
- Experience or the ability to learn cash handling and operating a register
- A genuine passion for food & Wine
- Be friendly, fun and energetic
- Great presentation and a high level of personal grooming.
- Physically capable of being on your feet for long periods of time
- Able to work autonomously and efficiently
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Food Safety & Handling Certificate preferable but not essential
- Ideally you are a Sommelier but this is not essential.
- You will have a current RSA
