ILG is a member owned Co-operative Wholesaler that services over 1500 hotels, bottle shops, licensed clubs, bars and restaurants across NSW, QLD and VIC.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Category Manager to join the ILG Team. Reporting to the Trading Manager, you will be an integral member of our Trading team, and responsible for implementing the Category Strategy for Wine by planning and managing price, promotion, and range for ILG members across NSW/ACT, QLD, VIC and SA.  This will involve negotiation at senior level with Liquor and FMCG suppliers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with current and future suppliers to ensure the longevity of mutual working relationships.
  • Negotiating commercially astute product ranges, promotional strategies, and Trading terms.
  • Execute a customer-centric strategy for the Wine category.
  • Plan and manage promotional activity processes such as Press, Catalogue and Digital for the wine category as well as assisting at ILG trade events.
  • Continuously leverage data and insights to drive continuous growth for the category.
  • Implement growth driver initiatives for the Wine category.
  • Proofing and authorizing of promotional material.
  • The management of Banner promotional data and pricing worksheets/advice.
  • Manage wine promotional grids/slotting board.
  • Report and analyze category performance including NPD’s and product deletions.
  • Supplier Web Portal Set up and ongoing management.
  • Delivery of strong commercial results and meeting KPI’s.
  • Management of the Trading Admin Support function.
  • Management of the Buyers own Brand portfolio. 
  • Develop strong external relationships with Suppliers.
  • Effective communication with Members
  • Develop strong internal working relationships with Trading, sales, Finance, Studio, Warehouse and Supply Chain teams.

We are looking for a customer focused and detail orientated person who enjoys being part of team and servicing the needs of their key stakeholders. You will have a passion for problem solving and building meaningful relationships. Ideally you will also possess the below:

  • Advanced negotiation and influencing skills.
  • You’re a self-starter who has the ability to work autonomously.

To be successful in this role you will have a proven background in a similar role, ideally within Liquor or FMCG with the ability to demonstrate achievements in driving category growth. 

  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including suppliers, members, and senior management.  
  • Excellent Microsoft Office experience including very strong Excel including V-Look ups.
  • Eye for detail with strong analytic skills 
  • Excellent communication at all levels from suppliers, members, management, and staff 
  • Prioritize and work to strict deadlines. 
  • To show initiative and strong time management skills 
  • High degree of people management skills 
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment.  
  • The flexibility to be very hands on as well as strategic.
  • Tertiary qualifications in marketing, business or a related discipline desirable 
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the liquor industry 
  • Well- rounded knowledge in all areas of the liquor industry and its categories.
