Sono Japanese Restaurant Portside Wharf is an award-winning restaurant located in Hamilton, QLD. With its unrivalled Brisbane River view, Sono Japanese Restaurant provides customers with an authentic and premium fine dining experience. Sono Japanese Restaurant is open six (6) days a week.
We are currently looking for experienced, committed, and professional Sommelier/ Senior Beverage Waiter to join our dynamic team.
The duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Leading by example and being a role model for the standards and behaviours consistent with Sono's core values and culture.
- Delivering superior customer service and maximise customer satisfaction.
- Responding efficiently and accurately to customer requirements.
- Maintain consistent communication with our Bar Manager and Floor Managers to provide updated information regarding the Wine List changes.
- To be able to provide a memorable experience to our guests and supporting our team while working on the floor and directly serving our guests.
- Responsible for briefing other restaurant staff on the wine list, so that they promote wines and can advise customers.
- Arrange staff training session to improve our team’s knowledge in wine service techniques.
- Managing Sono's brand and good image and suggest ways to improve it.
- Stock taking and ordering
- Maintaining and developing Supplier contacts.
- Implementing policies and training that will assist the team in improving their wine knowledge and wine service techniques.
The successful applicant must have:
- A minimum of two (2) years of relevant and proven work experience in a similar role and environment.
- Hold a current RMVL and RSA
- A wine qualification would be preferred.
- Able to mentor a team and share wine knowledge.
- Excellent knowledge in Australian and International wine market, and an understanding of wine and food parings, with a focus on Japanese Cuisine.
- An understanding of stocktaking and COGS.
- Flexible working availability for day and night shifts, including weekends.
- Genuinely enthusiastic and hardworking.

The team at Sono pride ourselves in creating a unique Japanese dining experience for our guests and work hard to ensure a warm and comfortable atmosphere for both our staff and patrons. Staff meals, training and regular hours will be provided to the candidate that shows they are able to work hard, as well as display any eye for quality and detail in their daily work.
Hours will mainly consist of shift work, with weekend shifts required. We are seeking dedicated persons for a long-term commitment with our restaurant. Full-time Salary packages will range from $60,000 - $75, 000+ plus super. We can negotiate a good salary package or hourly rate for the successful applicants.
