Blue Pyrenees Estate is a premium Cool Climate winery situated in the famed Pyrenees region of central western Victoria. With a stated ambition to champion the region and promote premium wines of distinction; we are pleased to announce  our production capabilities are expanding with the appointment of a Senior Cellar Hand.

Reporting to the Winemakers, the Senior Cellar Hand position is responsible for various operations relating to the production of wine, in line with Blue Pyrenees Estate procedures, including general cellar and vintage operations, routine laboratory work, preparing wines for bottling, equipment maintenance, and sensory evaluation.

·       Skilled in operating a broad range of winery equipment and processes at a "trainer" level, ensuring compliance with winery specifications and deadlines.

·       Ability to multitask, work well under pressure, and pay attention to detail.

·       Physical fitness, a positive attitude, and a hands-on approach to lead from the front

·       Self-motivation, energy, and a strong work ethic

·       Strong problem-solving skills and a high level of accuracy in all winery tasks.

·       Confidence and competency in operating forklifts, MEWP equipment, and experience in confined space entries


To succeed in this position, you will need to demonstrate:

·       A minimum of 5 years of experience in the wine, beverage or similar agricultural industry with competency across key winery processes.

·       Previous experience as a team leader or shift supervision roles, including training responsibilities, & capability to communicate effectively with stakeholders.

·       Flexibility to work shifts, including longer hours and weekends during vintage.

·       A desire to actively participate and learn in a team environment.

·       Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality wines.

·       Initiative and a focus on continuous improvement.

·       Willingness to learn, comply with winery regulations, and uphold health and safety standards.

 

Specific roles & responsibilities including, but not limited to:


• Crusher and press operation
• Juice and wine transfers and rackings
• Safe and efficient forklift operations
• Cellar cleaning and upkeep
• Filtration of wine and juice
• Tank additions
• Sample collection
• Barrel filling, emptying and washing
• Barrel additions, topping and stirring
• Tank cleaning and sterilisation

• Winery Sanitation
• Handling and recycling of winery wastewater
• Upkeep and maintenance of winery equipment
• Refrigeration/tank temperature monitoring
• Assisting in the warehouse, bottling line, lab and vineyard as required
• Stocktake
• A commitment to vintage tasks as required
• Intake and dispatch of bulk juice and wine

 

Requirements of role

Training/Qualifications
• Cellar hand Grade 5 or equivalent industry experience.

·       Working knowledge & competency in Organics, Sustainability & HACCP desirable
• All Cellar Hands must hold an Australian License to Perform High Risk Work (Forklift License) & other relevant certifications. (Or ability to gain certification)
