The McLaren Vale Grape Wine & Tourism Association is the peak representative body for all grape-growers, wine producers and tourism providers in one of Australia’s most valuable wine tourism regions – a combined representation of more than 550 businesses and over $500m in immediate farm-gate value.
The Association provides the major industries of the McLaren Vale region – wine, food and tourism – with a vision for the future in both domestic and international markets. The Association plays a crucial role in securing the region’s economic and environmental sustainability.
This broad and pivotal role provides support to McLaren Vale’s 300+ growers as guided by industry developments, the Board of MVGWTA and the General Manager.
This part-time role is ideally suited to an individual with sound environmental and/or viticulture understanding, as well as excellent organisation, administration and communication skills. Reporting to the General Manager, this role will involve multiple aspects of a regional grower liaison.
Responsibilities include:
- Management and implement of region’s annual sustainability program, Sustainable Australia Winegrowing (SAW) including membership, auditing, data analysis and report preparation and dissemination
- Administrative coordination and oversight of viticultural extension and education programs as required and identified through annual SAW results
- Administrative coordination and oversight of various local, state and federally funded programs, seminars and workshops, such as the SA Centrals Program activities
- Administrative management of the McLaren Vale Weather Station Network and CropWatch reports
- Oversight and liaison to the Districts Working Group, the Phylloxera & Biosecurity Working Group and Viticultural Reference Group
- Production and dissemination of appropriate reports and information to Members, such as the Eutypa Research Trails with the South Australian Research and Development Institute
- Extension of MVGWTA alliances with other regional, government and industry bodies.
The ideal individual:
- Demonstrated practical experience in positive, outcome-driven community engagement
- Demonstrated practical and/or technical experience in viticulture, winemaking, environmental sciences or related fields
- Demonstrated experience in data analysis, interpretation and reporting
- Excellent communicator with well-developed writing and presentation skills (presentations to grower groups will be required)
- Budget management experience
- Awareness and understanding of State and Federal government grant system
- Passion and commitment to the industry
- Professionally empathetic, respectful, results orientated, value constructive feedback, self-motivated, positive attitude
- High level of integrity across all activities and relationships
- Methodical, high-attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to achieve results and meet multiple deadlines

This role will be appointed as a 12-month, part-time contract initially, and may be extended pending performance and the Association’s capacity.
This role is located in McLaren Vale; some intrastate travel may be required. A valid driver’s licence is required to fulfil this role.
