Qualified Winemaker

We are seeking the services of a qualified winemaker to have a hands on day to day responsibility of our winery and vineyards located in the Barossa Valley.

Overview:

Reporting to the General Manager, key areas of responsibility are winemaking, cellar operations, vineyard management and grower liaison.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all Winemaking, Cellar and Vineyard operations.
  • Liaise with growers regarding spray and irrigation diaries, grape sampling, harvest and delivery of fruit.
  • Check and carry out key cellar and winemaking processes.
  • Manage oak and maintain barrel register.
  • Liaise with Consultant concerning wine styles, blending, wine care and costs.
  • Plan ahead and communicate work plans with management in a clear, written form.
  • Coordinate blending and dispatch for bottling.
  • Coordinate all domestic dispatches, analysis, QA, and cellar dispatch notes
  • Collection and delivery of all samples for wine analysis including reporting and interpretation of lab results undertaking any action required for wine management.
  • Monitor and maintain LIP register for all wine and wine movements prior to and post blending for bottling, ensuring blend forms are filled out and approved.
  • Observe all Laws & Regulations regarding Food Laws, Wine Law, label declarations.
  • Support all company systems, having authority to question or halt any process or operation which you consider may impair product quality or affect consumer welfare.
  • Report and/or rectify environmental/HSE hazards or potential hazards to each Department manager.
  • Comply with all reasonable instructions and procedures and use such equipment, protective clothing and other items provided by Riverside Vintners in the interest of health & safety.
  • Participate in Company training programs and professional development activities as and when required.
  • Ensure that work is carried out in accordance with Company HSE policies.
  • Works in a manner which does not wilfully or negligently place at risk the health or safety of any person including self.
  • Report to the General Manger, any potential situation observed which might constitute a hazard to the health and safety of employees, or any visitors to the Company.

Qualifications and experience:

  • A bachelor degree in Science, Oenology or equivalent.
  • At least 4 years winemaking experience with high end winery(s) including vintage(s) in the Rhone Valley.
  • Experience in vineyard management and Grower liaison.
  • Forklift Licence
