Burge Barossa is a well-established family owned agribusiness group of wine, pastoral and tourism entities based in Tanunda in the famous Barossa Valley.

Over its 30-year history Burge Barossa has expanded activity and services to include:  

  • Growing premium grapes
  • Offering vineyard management and contract harvesting services
  • Contract processing and bulk wine storage
  • Warehousing, labelling and logistics of bottled wine
  • Breeding Merino sheep with current flock over 8,000
  • Managing and owning boutique Bed & Breakfast cottages

The position will become available due to the impending retirement of the current Finance Manager after 25 years with the group.

Job Description

Reporting directly to the Group CEO with reporting responsibilities to the Group General Manager - Operations and Advisory Board, the broad role is responsible for:

  • Hands-on involvement in the day-to-day accounting of 9 entities
  • Preparation of Annual Financial Statements
  • Preparation, analysis and presentation of monthly financial and management reports
  • Preparation of annual budget (3-year forecast)
  • Cash control and regular cash flow forecasts – daily, monthly, quarterly
  • Reconciliation of inventory - monthly
  • Liaising and reporting to Financier - quarterly
  • Costing of bulk and bottled wine - ongoing
  • GST and WET compliance including BAS review and lodgement - quarterly
  • Working with tax advisors with income tax returns - annually
  • Maintaining fixed asset registers - ongoing

    The role has the support of one staff who will facilitate payroll in 2 entities (total staff of 50), debtors and creditors in the 4 larger entities.

Desired Skills and Experience

Personal attributes:

  • You will be a qualified Accountant who is technically strong in financial and management accounting
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience in a similar role
  • Familiar with accounting for Trust distributions and Inter Company loans
  • Knowledge of MYOB software and supporting software ClockON, VinX2 and CartonCloud would be advantageous
  • Passion, energy and superior organisation skills including attention to detail are required for this role
