Job Description
We are looking for a full-time winemaker to join our small friendly team and take ownership of creating exceptional, single site cool climate wines for our brand while supporting a range of contract customers. Reporting to the General Manager, this role has a high degree of autonomy in making key decisions during the winemaking process to produce wine to specification and style, whilst maximising quality, from the vineyard through to bottle.
• Management of a portfolio of wines across wine styles, as required that are crafted and maintained to the highest quality standards for both the Norfolk Rise brand and bulk market.
• Oversee the management of grape receival, processing and wine making, including chemical additions, racking, transfers, clarification, blending, and storage.
• Conduct wine tastings to evaluate quality and recommend treatments, including blending and bulk wine sales.
• Ensure that all laboratory analysis is up-to-date and relevant for informed decision-making.
• Work collaboratively with existing contract customers including initiative-taking monthly written communication to update progress and ensure timely delivery of products. Work hard to meet and exceed expectations, with the aim to grow this side of the business.
• Continually look to innovate and improve outcomes for the business and its people. Financial, environmental, WH&S and culture.
• Organise for wines to be entered in relevant wine shows and events to build the profile of the brand.
• Ensure maintenance of winery and cellar door including ensuring all facilities are regularly and appropriately cleaned.
• Attend and report to regular management team meetings on status and quantity of wines, including contract processing.
• Provide technical input to management team decisions related to grape varieties, wine types, styles and blends, and winery/vineyard capital projects.
• Accurate and timely cellar note generation within Vintrace.
• Timely preparation of all bottling wines to meet the scheduled production dates. Ensuring wines are compliant and in-spec.
• Timely and accurate use of planning tools for efficient interaction with the cellar and planning teams.
• Participate and be actively involved in tastings.
• Participation in brand, sales, and public relations events to promote the Norfolk Rise brand.
• Candidates must provide proof of permanent residency in Australia.
