Cellar Door Manager (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

Part Time

  Ashton Hills Vineyards Pty Ltd

126 Tregarthen Rd, Ashton, Australia, South Australia

Description

Lead the cellar door for one of Australia’s most iconic fine wine destinations.

About Ashton Hills

Ashton Hills is a boutique Pinot Noir and Chardonnay specialist located in the Piccadilly Valley. A pioneer of Pinot Noir in the Adelaide Hills, the Estate and Reserve wines are among the most respected in Australia. The cellar door is set on our three-hectare estate vineyard, offering stunning views and a uniquely personal tasting experience. Ashton Hills is proudly part of a family-owned group that includes Wirra Wirra in McLaren Vale and Hahndorf Hill in the Adelaide Hills.

The Role

The Ashton Hills cellar door is open Friday to Monday and has become a must-visit destination for lovers of cool-climate wines. The recently renovated space is iconic—celebrated for its intimacy, vineyard outlook, and the opportunity to taste rare, small-batch wines unavailable anywhere else.

We are seeking a passionate, self-sufficient and experienced Cellar Door Manager who can take full ownership of the day-to-day experience and uphold the reverence of the Ashton Hills brand. With limited on-site support due to our location, this role requires a confident leader who thrives in an autonomous setting while collaborating effectively with the broader Wirra Wirra and Hahndorf Hill teams.

This is a pivotal role in maintaining the highest standards of service, sales, presentation, and compliance, while driving growth in our exclusive Martini Club, which we are targeting to triple in volume next year.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Group Hospitality Director, your primary duties will include:

Leading and inspiring the Ashton Hills cellar door team to deliver exceptional customer service, memorable wine experiences, and a warm, professional atmosphere.

Upholding a culture of positivity, accountability, and excellence that aligns with our group values.

Training and mentoring staff in wine knowledge, customer service and sales techniques, helping the team to meet their KPIs and exceed cellar door sales targets.

Managing all aspects of cellar door service and presentation, ensuring an immaculate environment and a consistent premium standard that reflects the Ashton Hills brand.

Driving Martini Club recruitment and retention, with a strong focus on building lifetime customer relationships and growing direct-to-consumer value.

Managing staff rosters, approving timesheets, and ensuring compliance with workplace legislation (e.g. breaks, hours).

Communicating upcoming events, bookings, and key cellar door activities to the team in a timely and clear manner.

Undertaking administrative tasks, including maintaining and updating POS and booking software, pricing, and tasting list content.

Overseeing inventory control, including ordering, stock takes, and cellar door presentation.

Collaborating with the Wirra Wirra and Hahndorf Hill teams to align operations and uphold consistent group standards.

Monitoring cellar door financial performance, identifying opportunities to improve efficiencies, increase revenue, and manage costs responsibly.

Representing Ashton Hills as a brand ambassador—sharing its story with authenticity and care, and treating the wines, site and history with the reverence they deserve.

About You

To thrive in this role, you’ll need to bring:

A proven track record in managing and motivating high-performing teams in wine tourism or hospitality, ideally with experience across cellar doors, restaurants, retail, or events.

Strong commercial and operational acumen, with the ability to drive sales performance and manage day-to-day business metrics.

Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with a natural ability to lead, coach, and develop others.

A deep appreciation for fine wine—particularly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay—and the ability to share wine knowledge with both passion and clarity.

Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and systems while maintaining a calm and welcoming guest environment.

A proactive mindset and the confidence to lead autonomously in a regional setting, with limited daily oversight.

A collaborative spirit, keen to contribute to a broader team and help drive growth across a family-owned, values-led wine group.

Alignment with our five mantras:

We do what is right, not easy; We behave like proud owners; We take time to care for each other; We bring out the best in each other; We make the effort to listen and inform.

Applicants must have the right to work in Australia.

What We Offer

A rare opportunity to take custodianship of one of Australia’s most iconic small wineries.

The chance to shape the cellar door experience and grow the Martini Club into its next phase.

Support from a wider team that values excellence, authenticity, and creativity.

A stunning working environment in the heart of the Piccadilly Valley.

A warm, connected company culture built around integrity, ownership and care.
