Our SYD CBD Store is a busy space often packed with both local and international customers, those seeking a quick take away brew and others looking for a unique cafe experience. We have a reputation for exceptionally creative, seasonal and delicious food paired with fantastic coffee. We've recently launched a limited wine list focusing on local, natural, low intervention wines, along with limited beers offerings all sourced with a similar ethos and approach

Think you have what it takes?! We are looking for a Sous Chef to join our team. You will key part of taking the store to the "next level" of operational success. You will be responsible for the kitchen operations in the Head Chefs absence.  This role will suit an individual who's positive and enthusiastic! You must naturally have a love of food as a catalyst to bring people together and create community. You will understand what genuine hospitality means and how a Sous Chef plays a part in curating this. You will understand what seasonality means in a sustainable business and be able to be creative and most importantly execute our menu offerings in this context. 

Duties will include:

  • Being an involved and engaged 2IC under the support of our Head Chef
  • Supporting, leading and inspiring a team of Kitchen professionals
  • Growing and further developing the Positive Kitchen and store workplace culture
  • Being an active member of the Cafe Senior Staffing Team 
  • Execute a highly seasonal menu that's available as both Dine In and Take Away.
  • Have a through understanding of Kitchen Wage Costs (WAGS) and Food Cost Percentage (COGS).
  • At the Head Chefs request working and liaising with suppliers and overseeing stock ordering and stock rotation
  • In part being responsible for the quality and execution of every food item we sell. 
  • Playing a part in the overseeing of Kitchen Cleaning procedures and Hygiene standards
  • Maintaining warm and friendly relations with all cafe staff and customers
  • Oversee the Evening Bar Menu implementation and execution (Wed, Thursday, Friday)
  • Playing a "hands on role" in ensuring the Kitchen Team can achieve the stores vision, strategic and business goals.

What we are looking for

You must have experience in a similar role. A varied and creative culinary skill set across a range of cookery disciplines is required. A creative, positive, energetic and friendly attitude is a must. Forward thinking and "on trend" creativity paired with a sustainable seasonal mindset. The right applicant will have the opportunity to assist in menu development, we are a collaborative bunch, there's no such thing as a bad idea!

This is an opportunity for a lifestyle change -  no more weekends! You will likely be required to work Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings. This can be discussed upon application.   

Ultimately the highest priority for this role or any role in our store is to be a critical part in ensuring an amazing customer experience is had by anyone who enters our venue. You will do this by utilizing within the construct of your role every available kitchen resource at your disposal backed up by our team of FOH and Barista professionals.

This is a full time role with a salary of $55k-65K per annum + bonuses depending on experience. KPI and set Targets with Monthly Bonuses upon achievements. Salary is negotiable and can be discussed.
