Job Overview

Elderton Wines is a premium, family‑owned Barossa winery and custodian of some of the region’s most important old vine vineyards. With the retiring of a senior member of our vineyard team, we are seeking a Vineyard Operator to help carry out the day to day duties to ensure the continued quality and performance of our estate vineyards.

The role reports to our Viticulturalist and is ideal for a highly practical person with experience in working in vineyards who would enjoy some responsibility, variety and working hands on in the vineyard.

Elderton manages approximately 70 hectares of estate vineyards across three distinct Barossa Valley and Eden Valley sites.

All sites are managed with a strong focus on quality, sustainability, soil health and long‑term resilience, directly feeding Eldertons premium wine portfolio.

The Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist in carrying out all vineyard operations in a sustainable and efficient manner
  • Maintenance of all vineyards to optimum working order
  • Working with teams on seasonal work, pruning, canopy management and harvest
  • Close collaboration with viticulture and winemaking team to ensure our vineyards continue to produce optimum quality fruit
  • Competent tractor operation with a variety of applications
  • Have input into ensuring we are constantly working efficiently with a close eye on sustainable practices to ensure preservation of our precious old vines.
  • Maintaining safe, compliant and well‑presented vineyard sites

This is a working role — strong observational skills, sound judgement and being physically able and responsible in the vineyard are essential.

Requirements

You will have:

  • A keen interest in vineyard management
  • Strong practical skills and the ability to work alone from instruction
  • A genuine respect for old vines and premium vineyard assets
  • Experience working in vineyards preferable
  • Flexibility to work extended hours in peak season
  • Good communication skills
  • Positive and hardworking attitude
  • Current drivers licence
  • Chemcert accreditation, or willingness to attain
