Job Overview
McLeish Estate Wines is a family-owned vineyard in the heart of the Hunter Valley, known for producing premium wines from our established estate vines. We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Vineyard Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of the vineyard and surrounding grounds.
About the role
This is a dynamic, all-rounder position suited to someone passionate about viticulture and maintaining a high-quality vineyard environment. You will be responsible for overseeing vineyard operations from pruning through to harvest, while also ensuring the property is presented to a high standard year-round.
As our long-standing Vineyard Manager prepares for retirement, this role offers a unique opportunity to work alongside him during the transition, gaining valuable knowledge, support and mentorship to ensure a smooth handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of vineyard operations, including pruning, canopy management, irrigation, pest and disease control, and harvest coordination
- Operate and maintain vineyard machinery and equipment
- Implement spray programs and manage chemical applications safely and effectively
- Monitor vine health and fruit quality to achieve premium outcomes
- General grounds and property maintenance, including mowing & landscaping
- Work closely with the winemaking and cellar door teams
- Maintain reports and records of vineyard activities and program
Requirements
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in vineyard or agricultural management
- Strong knowledge of vineyard machinery and equipment operation
- Experience with chemical handling, spray programs and compliance requirements
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- High attention to detail and pride in property presentation
- Physically fit and capable of hands-on work
