Vineyard hand

Stumpy Gully Vineyard is a family-run business based in Moorooduc on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. We have 80 acres of vineyard and produce a range of varieties, focusing on Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Chardonnay, and Pinot Grigio. 

 This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in all aspects of a working winery- from the vineyard all the way through to vintage and beyond. 

 We are a small team searching for someone to fill a permanent position, part-time or full-time, beginning now. This role will include Vintage 2027, and work beyond that. The ideal applicant is someone practical, hardworking, and keen to be involved across both vineyard and winery, someone who loves a hands-on role and working outdoors. 

Experience is preferred, but not necessary. We will provide all training on the job, all you need is a willingness to learn. This job requires physical fitness- it can require long days in a physically demanding environment. 

Applicants must have Australian citizenship or residency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

-              General property maintenance including weed control, trellis repairs and rubbish removal

-              Canopy management, pruning, netting, vine training, general vine maintenance 

-              Tractor and mower operation - spraying, mowing and row maintenance  

- Use of chemicals for fungicide and herbicide spraying, weed removal ect

DURING VINTAGE: 

-              Unloading fruit bins from trucks

-              Tipping fruit bins into the fruit receival hopper and fermenters

-              Assist with machine and hand harvesting of grapes

-              Operation of tractors, forklifts and associated machinery

-              Tow and position grape bins and trailers to transfer harvested grapes from the field to the designated receival area

-              Assist with harvester clean-down and basic maintenance

-              Transportation of harvesting machinery and equipment between properties

-              Setout and retrieval of bird netting

-              Field sampling of grapes for maturity testing

-              Basic irrigation and vineyard maintenance tasks

BONUS EXPERIENCE: 

-              Pruning 

-              Operation of tractors and machinery for chemical application 

-              Mowing and slashing

-              General property maintenance
