Job Overview
The Victorian Wine Show (VWS) was established over 40 years ago in Central Victoria. The show has a proud history of bringing together the wine community and celebrating the industry’s successes.
In addition to the judging of wines, the VWS has been involved in sponsored study tours, educational scholarships, the sponsoring of international judges as well as providing support to our partners in Victoria’s regional wine show system.
Our long-term objective is to continue to improve the show and to develop stronger links with other Victorian wines shows and the local industry.
Reporting to the Victorian Wine Show Committee, the position is part time. The estimated annual time commitment is approximately 120 hours FTE. The main time required is immediately prior to and during the judging week of the Show held in late October.
The Director’s role is to promote and manage the VWS. The Director, in collaboration with the Secretary, are the key points of contact for exhibitors, judges, sponsors, Government and other stakeholders. The role is essential in ensuring the show remains relevant and an important part of the Victorian Wine Community. The role needs to network within the wine industry and be across future trends, innovations and have a keen understanding of the issues of the day for the Victorian Wine industry. In carrying out these tasks the Director is supported by a strong committee of dedicated wine professionals and enthusiasts.
Requirements
The successful applicant will need to demonstrate the following attributes.
• Ability to communicate effectively with industry, Government, media and sponsors both verbally and written,
• A clear understanding of wine show mechanics,
• Extensive industry knowledge,
• The ability to problem solve and innovate where necessary,
• Leadership qualities and skills to manage a group of committed and enthusiastic volunteers to deliver a show with a quality ethos in a collegiate manner,
• Marketing and financial management skills would be highly valued,
• As director the individual will also be a member of he VWS and its wine show committee. Committee meetings can be attended online.
Some of the duties of Director are, but not limited to:
• Appointment of the Judges in consultation with the Chief Judge and/or the committee for the VWS and the Victorian Premiers Trophy,
• Preparing and distributing the Wine Show Schedule,
• Effectively and efficiently managing the show judging,
• Coordinating the show awards lunch,
• Engaging with key stakeholders to help ensure the Wine Show maintains its relevance and value to the Victorian Wine Industry,
• Coordinating in conjunction with the appropriate Committee members, the appointment of stewards, selection of venues and accommodation, educational events, awards lunch, Parliament House tasting event, Premiers Trophy judging, scholarship liaison and VWS exhibitor results/medals & feedback.
This is a part time paid position and would suit an experienced industry professional looking to give back to the industry.
