We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced vineyard manager to lead our team at Wirrega Vineyards. We are a progressive Joint Venture first established in 1994 with a vineyard of 160ha now with 15 varieties of wine grapes supplying a number of grape purchasers producing award winning wines while developing our own brand and bulk wines. This is a full time, permanent position and the incumbent will be responsible for:
- Day to day management of vineyard staff and setting work programs (with the assistance of a vineyard supervisor)
- Oversight of office staff – accounts, payroll and record keeping
- Establishing weeds, pest and disease programs monitoring and control
- Irrigation scheduling
- Maintaining Records pertaining to all facets of Viticultural activities, workplace safety and rehabilitation, employment, grape deliveries and sales
- Operating/overseeing the Frost control system. (100 ha under sprinklers and 3 wind machines)
- Establishing Vine nutrition programs
- Negotiating/liaising with grape purchasers
- Liaising with winemakers
- Vintage planning, picking programs, freight coordination
- Oversight of the Vineyard WHS program
- Oversight and maintenance of the site “Freshcare Environmental” Quality Assurance compliance
- Appointment and management of staff
- Appointment and management of contractors
- Assisting with establishment of and tracking budgets
- Reports to the Wirrega Executive management committee and to the Wirrega Owners
There is a accommodation, provided on site as part of the package in a spacious 4br house with A/c and wood heater, office is separate to house. Beautiful location and school bus service to front gate just 6km from Mundulla and 15km from Bordertown. Both towns have a primary school and Bordertown has a secondary school. A work utility and mobile phone is also provided.
Person Description
The successful applicant will:
- Hold a Bachelor of Viticulture and Oenology or equivalent
- Have a proven track record of previous experience in vineyard management,
- have a proven track record of managing employees and work health and safety
- Possess excellent communicative skills
- Possess Computing skills, including Excel and Word
